Description
Champagne Baron-Fuente makes Grand Millesime as a vintage cuvee, declared only in strong years, and 2015 qualified after a cool, damp summer gave way to a warm late season. The grapes come from the best plots along the Vallee de la Marne around Charly-sur-Marne, in a blend of 45 per cent Chardonnay, 40 per cent Meunier and 15 per cent Pinot Noir. The fruit is cold pressed and fermented in stainless steel, then the wine is made by the traditional method with long ageing on the lees that builds depth, harmony and a fine, lasting bead, finished as a dry Brut.
The wine shows light gold with delicate greenish highlights and a lively, fine bead. The nose is elegant, with ripe citrus, white peach and a subtle red-berry note over brioche and almond. The palate is lively, fresh and harmonious, with pronounced vinosity and well-integrated structure, closing on citrus and long freshness. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits oily fish such as salmon and tuna, sushi and sashimi, and stands up to strong blue cheeses such as Roquefort.
