Description
This 1770 Glasgow single malt matured to 3 year old and bottled at 46%. 5000 bottles in all. Based in Hillington in the southwest of Glasgow, The Glasgow Distillery Company has made single malt since 2015. It was the first single malt distillery to work in Glasgow since the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill closed in 1902.
It was distilled from Scottish barley in copper stills on Loch Katrine water, giving the bright, fruity Glasgow spirit. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak under the fruit. The distillery's adventurous cask policy is built to bring young whisky to life. Its 1770 name recalls the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city. The first single malt casks were filled in 2015, the first whisky released in 2018. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila.
At an easy 46% it is gentle. Green apple, pear and a soft vanilla lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. Beneath it run apple, pear and a soft spice. The close is warm, fruit over young oak. This is a bright, fruity young Glasgow whisky.
