Basilico Elixirum Aperitivum

Basilico Elixirum Aperitivum is a herbal aperitif liqueur from Germany, made by Krugmann and bottled at 20%. It is built on a blend of herbs with basil taking centre stage, joined by a light citrus note and other natural herbs, balanced against a mild sweetness. The fresh basil lead is the defining feature, an unusual savoury herbal character for an aperitif made in the traditional macerated style.

The nose is intense basil with subtle citrus freshness and herbs, the palate fresh and aromatic with a harmonious blend of fresh basil and a gentle sweetness rounding off the herbal flavour, finishing long and pleasant with a spicy herbal aftertaste. Behind the bar it brings a herbaceous lift, citrus and a mild sweetness, which makes it a useful modifier in a basil mojito, a gin serve or a fresh herbal cocktail. It is good neat or as a refreshing aperitif over ice. Serve it well chilled, or lengthen it for a light herbal long drink before a meal.
