Description
La Medida Madrecuishe is a joven mezcal built from cultivated Madrecuixe, a tall form of Agave karwinskii grown at around 1,500 metres and often planted as a living fence around fields. It is made in San Luis Amatlan in the Miahuatlan district of Oaxaca, under the La Medida label, which gathers more than forty Oaxacan producers around Julian Vidal Gomez Rodriguez and his focus on long standing methods.
Karwinskii agaves lean mineral, dry and herbal, and this bottling lets the cook do the talking. Pit roasting brings clear wood smoke that sits at the front, with red chilli pepper flake and a touch of cloudy lemon for lift and balance. The result is earthy and full bodied, bottled at 46.6% so the smoke and the stony agave carry undiluted.
