Description
La Medida Mezcal Tobala is a joven made from wild Tobala, the small high altitude species Potatorum, gathered from jungle like terrain at 1,900 metres and produced traditionally in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca. It comes from La Medida, a brand uniting more than forty six Oaxacan producers led by Julian Vidal Gomez Rodriguez, who works in small batches by long established methods.
Tobala is prized for floral, fruity and mineral character, and this bottling shows juicy orchard fruit, restrained smoke, lasting minerality and a hint of black pepper. Pit roasted in the artesanal Oaxacan manner and bottled at 40 percent, it is a softer, more approachable reading of the wild agave that keeps its fruit and stony depth to the fore.
