Yamazaki Limited Edition 2015

Yamazaki Limited Edition 2015 is a no age statement single malt from Suntory's distillery in Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, in the river valley where soft humidity aids the long marriage of casks. One of the distillery's annual editions, it gathers stock from Japan's oldest whisky house into a fresh expression of the house style each year.

This release leans toward the sherried side, with dark chocolate and sherried dried fruit set over the distillery's ripe orchard fruit and a warm, resinous oak. The richer wood gives it more depth and a darker register than the bourbon led editions, the chocolate and dried fruit building through the middle. Bottled at 43%, it is rounded and comforting, a yearly portrait of the distillery seen through its sherry casks and a clear study in the house's sweeter, darker mood.
