Description
A single cask Yamazaki distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2003 at eleven years old by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society under code 119.6, released for the Netherlands. It draws on the malt of Suntory's Osaka Prefecture distillery, Japan's first, founded in 1923 in the valley of Shimamoto. As an independent bottling it offers an early, unblended glimpse of Yamazaki spirit at full power.
Matured in an ex-Bourbon cask and bottled at cask strength, an uncut 61.6% from a single barrel. Expect concentrated vanilla, ripe orchard fruit and a bright oak spice over the clean malt of the house, the high strength delivering real intensity and a long, warming finish. A drop of water opens the fruit and softens the spirit. A rare, undiluted record of the distillery as it was in the early 1990s, well before its current renown.
