Description
Kanosuke 6 Years Old 2018 is a single malt distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2024 at cask strength for the Japanese market. Six years is among the longer statements from Kanosuke, Komasa's coastal Kagoshima distillery opened in 2017, and the extended maturation in a southern Japanese climate adds noticeable depth and integration to the spirit.
The expression was matured across a combination of Ex-Bourbon and red wine casks, a pairing that layers the bourbon wood's vanilla and sweet cereal notes with the red fruit brightness and lighter tannin character of the wine barrels. In Kagoshima's warm, humid conditions this combination matures quickly and integrates well, with the distillery's fresh fruit and floral character from the pot still new make binding the two wood influences together. The cask strength bottling at 58% presents the result without dilution.
