Cask #5418 from Chichibu's Saitama distillery was distilled in 2015 and bottled in 2022 at 59.5% by The Whisky Exchange for an event release. The Whisky Exchange has maintained a close relationship with Chichibu, selecting single casks that represent specific and individual expressions from the distillery's eclectic programme.
The noted oiliness of this particular cask is a textural characteristic that sets it apart from more typical Ex-Bourbon Chichibu releases. The seven-year maturation has built the expected vanilla and fresh fruit from American oak while the oily mouthfeel adds body and length to the finish. At 59.5%, it sits toward the more accessible end of cask strength for Chichibu, making it easier to engage with directly from the bottle without excessive dilution.
