Saline and fresh, this Pere Labat Clos Parcellaire La Salabotte 2024 shows fresh sugar-cane, herbs, citrus and a salty mineral edge, an unaged single-parcel cane-juice blanc from Guadeloupe bottled at a lively 52.5%.
Description
Poisson's Pere Labat is one of Marie Galante's most reputed distilleries, and this Clos Parcellaire La Salabotte is a single-parcel blanc, bottling rum from one named plot of cane. Distilled from fresh sugar-cane juice and left unaged, it captures the terroir of a single piece of Guadeloupe land, within the island's IGP framework.
The profile is classic fresh cane with a distinctive twist: sugar-cane, herbs and bright citrus up front, then a pronounced salty, mineral edge that runs through the palate and a long, earthy, orange-peel finish. Some drinkers find an unexpected sweet caramel and hazelnut note on the nose, even hints of plum and pear brandy. Bottled at 52.5%, it is balanced and oily, excellent neat or in a Ti' Punch for those who enjoy a saline, mineral-driven white.
