Germany's Rum Artesanal bottles in the unsweetened full-proof tradition, and this single cask is a genuine old-timer, a Jamaican blend of pot and column stills from the 1982 vintage carried all the way to 40 years. Reduced to a soft 45.1%, it trades power for the delicacy that great age brings.

Matured in ex-bourbon wood, much of it likely in cooler continental conditions given the gentle losses over four decades, it shines on the nose: tropical fruit, dates, peach, glue and spice in an intense, layered aromatic. The palate is where the years tell, turning woody, roasted and softly fruity but noticeably light and thin for the strength. The finish brings nutmeg and a fine tropical fruit fade. This is a contemplative, aroma-led rarity, unsweetened and best enjoyed neat and unhurried rather than chased for palate weight.
