A cask strength 2006 Panamanian single barrel from 1423’s S.B.S line, unsweetened at 57% yet surprisingly accessible, with caramel, honey and dark forest fruit over wood and spice, an easy drinking yet characterful sipper.
Description
This S.B.S bottling comes from 1423 in Denmark, whose Single Barrel Selection is built on transparency, cask strength and no added sugar. Drawn from a single 2006 Panamanian cask and aged twelve years in ex bourbon wood, it presents the country's soft, vanilla led base in a fuller, unsweetened form, with vanilla, caramelised notes, cinnamon and oak on the nose.
The palate is rounded and approachable, caramel and tropical fruit with a spicy edge, finishing on caramelised vanilla, milk chocolate and a soft roundness. Despite 57% and no sugar, this stays unusually easy to drink, the strength well integrated and the wood present without dominating, giving caramel, honey and dark forest fruit in good balance. For drinkers who like Panama or softer Latin style rum and want to try cask strength without being overwhelmed, it is an inviting, characterful choice.
