RA Island Blend 2019

RA Island Blend is a Caribbean blend from Rum Artesanal, the respected German bottler, drawing on Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Guadeloupe and bottled at an approachable 40%. While Rum Artesanal is best known for unsweetened full-proof single casks, this is a softer, gentler entry point, a fruity and lightly sweet blend pitched at drinkers taking their first steps toward fuller, funkier rum.

The Jamaican component brings banana and ester funk, sherry-like fruit, plum and raisin, rounded by Dominican smoothness and a little Guadeloupe spice, with vanilla, dates and a caramel, roasted finish. Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it stays soft and mildly woody, the funk present but never aggressive. The sweetness reads as light and the price is friendly.
