Description
Big Peat Friends of Fis le 2026 is a blended malt Scotch from Douglas Laing, an all Islay vatting with Caol Ila at its core. Big Peat marries Islay single malts into a big, smoky whole, its cartoon fisherman a shelf favourite.
The Caol Ila within lends a clean, lemony Islay smoke rather than a heavy tarry one. An Oloroso hogshead lent raisin, fig and a savoury edge. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, which is why it suits so many wood types. Smoked citrus and a saline minerality are the hallmarks of the make. Port Askaig is a tiny settlement on the rugged east coast of Islay. The six tall stills sit behind picture windows looking out to Jura. Sea air works into the maturing casks, lending a briny, coastal lift. Its spirit also feeds blends such as Bell's and Black Bottle. Tall stills and a clean cut give the spirit its oily, lemony lightness.
At a full 52.6% it is bold and oily. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. The texture is oily, the smoke threaded with citrus. A smoky, oily warmth lingers with lemon and salt. A characterful smoky blended malt Scotch.
