Description
Bottled by Cadenhead's, this Cameronbridge, a 26 year old distilled in 1989 and bottled at 56.6%. Only 456 bottles were released. Cameronbridge is a Lowland grain distillery in Fife, founded in 1824 by John Haig and now the largest distillery in Scotland. Its single grain has long been sold as Cameron Brig, and since 2014 as Haig Club.
The spirit was run off the distillery's three column stills from a wheat mash, to build a soft, sweet grain character. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding coconut and vanilla. Mid age brings a deeper coconut and a buttery, dessert sweetness. Continuous distillation gives a light, clean spirit, so the cask drives much of the flavour. The distillery sits at Windygates in the Kingdom of Fife, near the River Leven. Light grain spirit like this gains coconut and toffee from decades in active oak. Pot stills for malt whisky were removed in 1929, leaving Cameronbridge a pure grain plant.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.6%, it is rich. The ex-Bourbon gives coconut, toffee and a creamy caramel. Soft toffee and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. A sweet, coconut led finish lingers. This is a Lowland single grain from Fife.
