Description
From Brave New Spirits comes this Cameronbridge, a 13 year old single grain, from cask Batch No. 1 and bottled at 57.8%. Cameronbridge was founded in 1824 by John Haig, of the great Haig distilling family, in Fife. A founding member of the Distillers Company in 1877, it is now Diageo's largest distillery.
The spirit was made in continuous stills from wheat for a light spirit, for a light, sweet make of real purity. A wine or fortified cask shaped it, the fruit meeting the sweet grain. At a youthful age the spirit is bright, sweet and clean. Patient ageing gives the oily, waxy texture prized in old single grain. The Haig name has been tied to Scottish distilling since the 17th century. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland, making the country's first commercial grain whisky. A founding member of the Distillers Company in 1877, it is now Diageo's largest distillery. Since Port Dundas closed in 2010, it is Diageo's only wholly owned grain distillery.
At cask strength 57.8% it is full bodied. The wine cask adds red berry and spice over the sweet grain. The texture is oily and buttery, the sweetness coating. A warming, sweet finish lingers. This is Cameronbridge's light, sweet single grain.
