Wolfburn Vibrant Stills 7 Years Old 2015

A Wolfburn single malt, a 7 year old from 2015, cask 079,147,248,313, bottled at 50%. Just 1500 bottles were filled. Founded in 2013, Wolfburn is a small, hand run distillery at Thurso in Caithness. The Kylver Series of single casks is named for the runes of an ancient Caithness stone.

The spirit was run through the distillery's one wash and one spirit still, for a clean, fruity make. Maturation in a fortified cask lent red fruit and spice. By this age the young spirit rounds into orchard fruit and a gentle oak. A young distillery, Wolfburn leans on active casks, the wood shaping much of the flavour. Wolfburn distils, matures and bottles all on its one small site at Thurso. The stills came from Forsyths of Rothes, the most respected still maker in the business. The distillery sits among the rugged scenery of Caithness, near the cliffs and beaches of the north coast.

Undiluted at 50%, it is powerful. Pear, honey and a clean malt, and the Rum cask brings brown sugar and a tropical lift. It is fresh and fruity, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish is bright, fruity and coastal. This is a bright young single malt from Caithness.
