Description

Wolfburn's Small Batch release No. 1, named for the warehouse and stow the casks came from. A 4 year old, bottled at 55%. Wolfburn is a far north craft distillery at Thurso in Caithness, working by hand since 2013. It is the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, on the North Coast 500 at Thurso.

Distilled slowly on soft Wolf Burn water, giving the clean, fruity coastal spirit. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, soft oak that lets the coastal fruit lead. At a youthful age the fruit is lively and the malt clean. The light, clean make takes cask character readily across maturation. Wolfburn distils, matures and bottles all on its one small site at Thurso. The stills came from Forsyths of Rothes, the most respected still maker in the business. The distillery sits among the rugged scenery of Caithness, near the cliffs and beaches of the north coast.

Bottled at a cask strength 55%, it is intense. Apple, citrus and a clean malt, and ex-Bourbon oak gives vanilla and a light apple. The texture is light and fresh, the fruit lifted by a coastal salt. The finish runs light, coastal and crisp. This is Wolfburn's clean, coastal Thurso single malt.
