Description

House of McCallum selected this Tobermory, an 11 year old island malt from 2010, drawn from cask 058 and bottled at 45.5%. Only 234 bottles were released. Made on the Isle of Mull, Tobermory is the unpeated single malt of the island's sole distillery. The single malts are bottled without chill filtration at 46.3 percent or higher.

Made in the high reflux stills from unpeated barley, for a fruity, waxy make with a green lift. It was matured in ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the wax and a green note bright. Sherry wood suits the oily make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. In dry summers the distillery has paused when its hill loch ran low. The distillery sits at the head of the bay, beneath a steep wooded hill. Both malts feed the Scottish Leader and Black Bottle blends as well as single malt. The distillery was refurbished and its stills renewed between 2017 and 2019.

At 45.5% it is soft and deep. Pear, oily malt and a green note, and vanilla and a soft oak come from the bourbon wood. A green note and a gentle spice give it depth. The finish is deep, waxy and nutty. This is the fruity side of the Isle of Mull's distillery.
