Description
This 1770 Glasgow single malt, aged 4 year old from 2018, drawn from cask 18/959 and bottled at 60.1%. Just 396 bottles were filled. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012 and revived single malt distilling in Glasgow after more than a century. It was the first single malt distillery to work in Glasgow since the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill closed in 1902.
The spirit was worked through copper pot stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the fresh, fruity make at the heart of the 1770 style. A sherry cask held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. The casks here are very active, and on a young spirit they work fast, giving real depth in just a few years. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city. The first single malt casks were filled in 2015, the first whisky released in 2018.
Undiluted at 60.1%, it is powerful. Green apple and a creamy malt lead, and the Moscatel brings grape, honey and a floral lift, and the virgin oak gives vanilla, baking spice and a little coconut. Beneath it run apple, pear and a soft spice. The finish is bright, spiced and warming. This is a vibrant young malt from the city of Glasgow.
