Description
This official 1770 Glasgow single malt, aged 4 year old from 2017, drawn from cask 17/548 and bottled at 61.5%. The outturn was 372 bottles. The Glasgow Distillery Company, set up in 2012 in Hillington, was Glasgow's first malt distillery in over a hundred years. Water comes from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled without chill filtration and at natural colour.
Run through the distillery's copper pot stills, to build a clean, orchard fruit character. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the fruit. The cool, damp Glasgow warehouse gives a steady maturation. It was named Scottish Distillery of the Year in 2020. The make is bright and fruity, a modern, metropolitan take on Lowland malt. Production has grown year on year as demand for Glasgow malt has risen. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow in over a century.
At a hearty 61.5% it carries real punch. Orchard fruit and a light honey lead, and the Marsala lends raisin and brown sugar. A green apple and a warm spice lift it. A long, fruity finish carries a vanilla lift. This is Glasgow's revived single malt, the 1770.
