Description
An official Glasgow Distillery single malt, a 6 year old, drawn from cask Batch 02 and bottled at 58%. Just 2250 bottles were filled. The Glasgow Distillery Company took its 1770 name from the city's old Dundashill distillery, and revived Glasgow malt in 2012. The first malt casks were filled in 2015, and the first single malt was released in 2018.
The spirit was drawn off copper stills fed by Loch Katrine water, for a young, fruity spirit ready for active wood. A wine cask shaped it, the fruit meeting the young spirit. Active first fill wood pulls colour and flavour quickly into the young spirit. Production has grown year on year as demand for Glasgow malt has risen. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow in over a century. Its 1770 name recalls the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city.
At a natural 58% it is bold and full. Apple, citrus and a gentle malt lead, and the Cognac brings grape and a vinous, dried fruit note. A vanilla and a gentle spice give it depth. A fruity, gently spiced finish lingers. This is the 1770 single malt of Glasgow.
