Van Wees, the Dutch house behind The Ultimate range, selected this 12 Year Old: a 2009 from cask 305121. Mortlach, the first licensed distillery in Dufftown, runs a 2.81-times distillation and worm-tub condensers that give the heavy, meaty spirit fans call the Beast of Dufftown.

Across twelve years in American oak, esterification got underway and the meaty spirit rounded, vanilla and light toffee folding in.

At 46% it shows honey, dried fruit and a leathery depth carried on the heavy Dufftown body. A Beast of Dufftown.
