Van Wees, the Dutch house behind The Ultimate range, bottles this 7 Year Old, cask 800013, a 2008 vintage, an outturn of 311 bottles. Mortlach's robust, umami-rich spirit is the work of worm-tub condensers and the Wee Witchie's triple pass, a regime in place at Dufftown since 1897.

Early at seven years, the American oak gave Mortlach's weighty make first vanilla and a little coconut from the lactones, the worm-tub weight still dominant.

At 46% it shows honey, dried fruit and a leathery depth over the full-bodied base. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
