Description
Murray McDavid, founded in 1996 by the team that revived Bruichladdich, bottles this 34 Year Old, a 1989 vintage from cask 368, an outturn of 179 bottles. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Thirty-four years in ex-bourbon, pedro ximenez casks shaped the muscular Dufftown spirit with layered fruit and oak.
At 40.1% it shows dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty, sherried depth on Mortlach's muscular frame, undiluted. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
