Mortlach 18 Years Old 1988 (Murray McDavid)

Murray McDavid, founded in 1996 by the team that revived Bruichladdich, drew this 18 Year Old, from a 1988 vintage, an outturn of 1,200 bottles. Mortlach's heavy, savoury style comes from worm-tub condensing and a part-triple distillation through the Wee Witchie, unchanged since 1897.

By eighteen years the dense Mortlach spirit had turned oxidative, esters and acetals lending dried fruit and a savoury, oily weight beneath the vanilla.

At 55.3% it shows malt, dried fruit and a leathery edge carried on the heavy Dufftown body, undiluted. The savoury Dufftown style.
