From Hunter Laing, the Laing family independent based in Glasgow, this 25 Year Old is a 1992 vintage, an outturn of 319 bottles. Mortlach, long the muscular heart of the Johnnie Walker blends, draws its meaty depth from low-copper worm tubs and a 2.81-times distillation regime.

Twenty-five years in ex-Bourbon saw fresh extraction tail off and oxidation take over, drawing stewed fruit, leather and a nutty depth from Mortlach's weighty make.

At 58.8% it shows chocolate, dried fruit, leather, a nutty depth, a sherried weight and a toasted note, undiluted. A Beast of Dufftown.
