Description
From Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, whose deep stocks include some of the oldest Mortlach in existence, this 46 Year Old is a 1974 vintage from cask 8254, an outturn of 197 bottles. Mortlach, long the muscular heart of the Johnnie Walker blends, draws its meaty depth from low-copper worm tubs and a 2.81-times distillation regime.
By forty-six years the sherry, oxidation and evaporation had taken the meaty spirit to its limit, dried fruit and leather worn deep and soft.
At 50.9% it shows cooked fruit, chocolate, citrus, dried fruit, honey and a leafy note, undiluted. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
