Description
Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, whose deep stocks include some of the oldest Mortlach in existence, released this 59 Year Old, cask 1591, a 1965 vintage, an outturn of 65 bottles. Mortlach's robust, umami-rich spirit is the work of worm-tub condensers and the Wee Witchie's triple pass, a regime in place at Dufftown since 1897.
Fifty-nine years in ex-Bourbon carried Mortlach's weighty make to a profound, savoury maturity, long oxidation bringing leather, beeswax, old wood and worn fruit.
At 44.1% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight framed by the dense Dufftown spirit, undiluted. Mortlach at full weight.
