Mortlach 36 Years Old 1936 (Gordon & MacPhail)

Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, whose deep stocks include some of the oldest Mortlach in existence, drew this 36 Year Old: a 1936 vintage. Mortlach, the Beast of Dufftown, condenses its spirit in worm tubs and part-triple-distils through the tiny Wee Witchie still, building weight and a savoury, sulphury core.

Thirty-six years in Oloroso drew the dense Mortlach spirit to a profound depth, long oxidation and heavy evaporation over figgy dried fruit, leather and old wood.

At 43% it shows dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty, sherried depth framed by the dense Dufftown spirit. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
