Description
Douglas Laing, bottling single casks from Glasgow since 1948, released this 15 Year Old: a 2009 vintage, cask DL 19832, an outturn of 282 bottles. Mortlach, owned by John Walker & Sons from 1923, makes a dense, sulphury Speyside through worm tubs and its singular 2.81-times distillation.
Across fifteen years the oak's ellagitannins added structure while oxidation deepened the meaty spirit into cooked fruit and leather.
At 48.4% it shows malt, dried fruit and a leathery edge over the oily Mortlach weight, undiluted. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
