Description
Douglas Laing, the Glasgow independent established in 1948, bottles this 15 Year Old, a 2007 vintage, cask DL 15709, an outturn of 287 bottles. Mortlach, the Beast of Dufftown, condenses its spirit in worm tubs and part-triple-distils through the tiny Wee Witchie still, building weight and a savoury, sulphury core.
Across fifteen years the oak's ellagitannins added structure while oxidation deepened the meaty spirit into cooked fruit and leather.
At 48.4% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight on Mortlach's muscular frame, undiluted. Big, meaty and full-bodied.
