Description
Douglas Laing, bottling single casks from Glasgow since 1948, drew this 12 Year Old: a 2005 from cask DL 11797, an outturn of 367 bottles. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Across twelve years in American oak, esterification got underway and the meaty spirit rounded, vanilla and light toffee folding in.
At 48.4% it shows an oily texture and old wood, undiluted. A Beast of Dufftown.
