Description
Cadenhead's, Scotland's oldest independent bottler, founded in 1842, bottles this 19 Year Old: a 1988 distillation, an outturn of 664 bottles. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Across nineteen years the sherry's melanoidins and growing oxidation built dried fruit, nutmeg and leather into the robust Mortlach spirit.
At 57.6% it shows honey, vanilla, chocolate, leather, a sherried depth and a toasted note, undiluted. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
