From Adelphi, the esteemed independent revived in the 1990s, this 17 Year Old is cask 800263, a 2003 vintage, an outturn of 267 bottles. Mortlach, the first licensed distillery in Dufftown, runs a 2.81-times distillation and worm-tub condensers that give the heavy, meaty spirit fans call the Beast of Dufftown.

Across seventeen years the sherry's melanoidins and growing oxidation built dried fruit, nutmeg and leather into the heavy, sulphury make.

At 55.5% it shows fresh fruit, malt extract and old wood, undiluted. A bold, sherried Mortlach.
