Lagg Small Batch (Palo Cortado)

This Small Batch is a peated single malt from Lagg, the young Isle of Arran distillery, given a Palo Cortado sherry character, released in 2025. Palo Cortado is a rare sherry that sits between the dry Amontillado and the richer Oloroso. Lagg opened in 2019 as the peated sister to Lochranza, reviving Arran's peated tradition.

Lagg's spirit is heavily peated, the barley smoked to roughly 50ppm. Matured in Palo Cortado casks, the sherry adds a nutty, dried-fruit depth to the smoke.

Bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.2%. Guaiacol and phenols drive the peat smoke, the Palo Cortado giving dried fruit and a dry, nutty richness. Tasting notes take in chocolate, citrus, a coal-gas edge, a medicinal note, a nutty edge and smoke. A Palo Cortado small-batch Lagg.
