Description
This Feis Ile 2017 release was Kilchoman's bottling for the Islay whisky festival, a 100% Islay vatting of own-barley casks from 2008 and 2009 in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso. An outturn of 877 bottles. Set up by Anthony Wills in 2005, Kilchoman remains Islay's only farm distillery.
Grown, malted, distilled and bottled at Rockside Farm, this is barley to bottle in full. The own-grown barley is lightly peated and matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 58%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla, the Oloroso dried fruit, while gentle peat phenols carry the smoke. The recorded notes run to smoke, fresh oak, cooked fruit, a cooked malt note, a fragrant lift and fresh fruit. A festival vatting of the farm single malt.
