Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd. The Hearach First Fill Oloroso Cask Matured Cask #Batch 01

Batch 01 of The Hearach First Fill Oloroso was among the first of this sherry-led line from the Isle of Harris Distillery. Matured entirely in first fill Oloroso casks, it gave 12,100 bottles for Europe, the young island malt taking on a darker character.

The distillery opened in Tarbert in 2015 as a Social Distillery, founded to keep work and people on the island, and its lightly peated Hearach was the first single malt ever made on Harris. Matured in first fill Oloroso, the sherry wood works hard on a young spirit.

At 46%, natural colour, without chill filtration. The Oloroso gives dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin, with a walnut dryness, the gentle island smoke beneath. The recorded note is a fragrant lift over the sherried fruit. Dark, smoky and coastal.
