Description
Batch 6 was part of The Hearach's First Release year in 2023, when the Isle of Harris Distillery finally bottled the island's first single malt after eight years of work. A large outturn of 12,026 bottles for Europe, it belongs to that historic first wave.
The Tarbert distillery opened in 2015 as a Social Distillery, founded by Anderson Bakewell to revive a declining island community. Its lightly peated malt and gneiss-filtered water shape the Hearach character. Matured in ex-Bourbon, Oloroso and Fino casks, the three woods build a layered young malt.
At 46%, non-chill-filtered and naturally coloured. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla and coconut, the Oloroso dried fruit, the Fino a dry nuttiness. The recorded notes run to fresh fruit, malt sweetness, fresh oak, vanilla, honey and leather, the gentle smoke beneath. A historic early batch.
