Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd. The Hearach Inaugural Release Cask #Batch 1

This is Batch 1, the Inaugural Release of The Hearach in 2023, the first single malt ever made on the Isle of Harris and the bottle that ended over a century without island distilling. An outturn of 12,313 bottles, it carries genuine historic weight.

The Isle of Harris Distillery opened in Tarbert in 2015 as a Social Distillery, founded by Anderson Bakewell to fight island population decline, and it took eight years to bring this first malt to bottle. Matured in ex-Bourbon, Oloroso and Fino casks, the three woods shape the debut.

At 46%, with no chill filtration and natural colour. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla and coconut, the Oloroso dried fruit, the Fino a dry nuttiness, with the gentle island smoke from guaiacol and phenols. The recorded notes run to honey, smoke, citrus, an oily texture, vanilla and a cereal note. Where the island's whisky story begins.
