The Hearach First Fill Oloroso Cask Matured

This expression of The Hearach is matured entirely in first fill Oloroso sherry casks, a fuller, darker take on the Isle of Harris single malt than the standard batch vatting. First fill wood is the most active, so the sherry voice is strong on a young spirit.

The Isle of Harris Distillery opened in 2015 in Tarbert as a Social Distillery, its lightly peated Hearach the first single malt ever made on the island. Matured in first fill Oloroso, the sherry wood drives dried fruit into the gently smoky spirit.

At 46%, with natural colour and no chill filtration. The Oloroso gives dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin, with tannins adding a walnut dryness, the island smoke beneath from guaiacol and phenols. Sherried, smoky and coastal.
