Description
The Hearach revived single malt distilling on the Isle of Harris after well over a century, and this 2018 single cask is among the early bottlings from the Tarbert distillery. Drawn from a single ex-Bourbon cask, it gave 265 bottles for Europe at six years old.
The Isle of Harris Distillery opened in 2015 as a Social Distillery, founded by Anderson Bakewell to bring work to a dwindling Hebridean community. Its lightly peated spirit and soft water over Lewisian gneiss give The Hearach its character. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask, the oak frames a clean, young island malt.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 55.1%. The ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with the distillery's gentle smoke beneath. At six years it is fresh and lively, apple and vanilla over a faint coastal salinity into a clean finish.
