Description
Founded in 1959, Invergordon makes grain whisky on a large scale for blending, so single grain bottlings under its own name are rare and come mostly from independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Bladnoch Forum, distilled in 1972, at 36 years old. Single cask number 106580 yielded 113 bottles, released for Germany.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at 44%, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
