Description
Invergordon single grain is uncommon, the distillery's output largely feeding Whyte & Mackay blends rather than standalone bottlings. This single cask was bottled by Bestwhiskymarket, distilled in 1988, at 36 years old, for its Literki range. Single cask number 26980 yielded 157 bottles.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 59%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to citrus, fresh orchard fruit, green, leafy notes and dried hay. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
