Description
Founded in 1959, Invergordon makes grain whisky on a large scale for blending, so single grain bottlings under its own name are rare and come mostly from independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Best Dram, distilled in 2009, at 15 years old. Single cask number 305954A yielded 112 bottles, released for Germany.
Invergordon is a grain distillery rather than a malt one, distilling a mash of maize, wheat and barley through tall continuous column stills to a light, high strength spirit. Matured in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 55.9%, without dilution, the Oloroso wood adds dried fruit, with melanoidins reading as fig and raisin and tannins giving a walnut dryness. The result is a soft, sweet profile led by vanilla and coconut, into a gentle finish.
