Description
Cadenhead's, Scotland's oldest independent bottler, released this 7 year old Single Islay Malt, a young cask strength ex-Bourbon release for Italy, widely taken to be Lagavulin. Lagavulin sits at Lagavulin Bay on Islay's south shore, founded in 1816, though only around two percent of its spirit ever escapes as an independent bottling.
Lagavulin runs its stills slowly for a heavy, peated spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon and bottled young at full strength, the smoke comes through bright and direct.
Bottled without dilution at 58.6%. Guaiacol leads the phenols behind the smoke, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla. A rare young independent Islay malt.
