Description
Vecindad de Manuel Salcedo Raicilla Lechuguilla is a mountain raicilla from Mascota in Jalisco, distilled from Agave maximiliana, which in Jalisco is widely known as Lechuguilla. Maximiliana is the classic raicilla agave for this western agave spirit, and Manuel Salcedo, who also produces raicilla for La Venenosa, works it in the traditional sierra way.
The agave is steamed in a masonry oven, hand milled with machetes, fermented in steel vats and distilled in a stainless still with a copper coil, then bottled at 49%. The result is led by a sweet tamarind aroma that the palate confirms, settling into a balanced, gently sweet finish that stays clear of both bitterness and smoke. It is a softer, fruit leaning expression of the mountain style, with the agave kept front and centre.
