Description
This official Singleton of Dufftown, at 40%. Dufftown is one of Diageo's largest malt distilleries, founded in 1895 in a former mill. Its single malt has been sold as The Singleton of Dufftown since 2006, mainly in the UK and Europe.
It was distilled for the nutty, malty character Dufftown is known for, the long ferment building a grassy, fruity character. It was matured in a Moscatel cask, the wood working slowly into the malt. Without an age statement, vanillin sweetness and a nutty malt point to good years in oak. Refill oak lets the nutty, malty Dufftown character lead the way. For years it made a rich, nutty, spicy spirit in the Bell's style. In recent years the ferment was lengthened and the wort run clear for a grassier make. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple and malt deepening to honey. The town of Dufftown holds the highest concentration of distilleries in Scotland.
At 40% it is clean and soft. A smooth, fruity sweetness, with a grapey, floral sweetness from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a nutty malt sit behind the cask. Apple, nut and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a smooth, nutty Speyside single malt.
