The Singleton of Dufftown 18 Years Old

An official release of Singleton of Dufftown, an 18 year old, at 40%. Dufftown is a Speyside single malt, founded as the Dufftown-Glenlivet distillery in 1895. The Singleton of Dufftown is matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak.

The spirit was mashed in the full lauter tun and fermented long for a clean, grassy make, for a clean, malty Speyside spirit. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the malt. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a nutty depth. Water from Jock's Well and a long ferment give the clean Dufftown make. The slow distillation gives a smooth spirit that takes well to the cask. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple and malt deepening to honey. For years it made a rich, nutty, spicy spirit in the Bell's style. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Dufftown warehouses.

At 40% it is clean and soft. Nutty malt, green apple and a gentle spice, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is smooth and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The close is smooth, fruit over a gentle, spicy oak. This is the Singleton of Dufftown in single malt form.
