A fourteen year old 2006 Panama rum bottled at cask strength by The Nectar of the Daily Drams, column-distilled and ex-bourbon aged, fifty five point three percent of oak, vanilla, orchard fruit, tobacco and baking spice in a firm, dry frame.
Description
The Nectar of the Daily Drams is the rum line from the respected Belgian house The Nectar, and this is a fourteen year old single Panama vintage from 2006, bottled at a robust cask strength of fifty five point three percent. It takes Panama's usually soft, mellow profile and dials up the intensity, an independent bottling for drinkers who want more proof and grip.
Column-distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon wood, the higher strength brings oak, vanilla and bourbon notes on the nose with a grapefruit lift, then a palate of tobacco, orchard fruit and cinnamon leading to a spiced, raisin-and-chocolate finish. It runs drier and firmer than a standard Panamanian, the cask and proof well integrated into a very pleasant sipper. Some find it a touch lighter than the country's bigger rums, but the balance of wood, spice and fruit makes it a rewarding pour neat.
